AUGUSTA, Ga. - Walter William Leroy Sr., 89, of Waynesboro, died Sunday, January 6, 2002, of complications following surgery in the VA Hospital, Augusta, Ga. A memorial service is to be held Saturday, 2 p.m., February 2, 2002, at St. Michaels Episcopal Church, Waynesboro. Mr. Leroy, a native of Baltimore, Md., was a resident of Atlanta, Charlotte, Augusta, Ft. Myers, Fla., Johnson City, Tn., Montclair, N.J., and Baltimore, before moving to Waynesboro. He graduated Pi Tau Sigma from the Georgia Institute of Technology Clas of 1934 as a mechanical engineer. He was a Major in the Army Corp of Engineers during WWII. He was a Life-Fellow Member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and a Life Member of The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers. He was in the asbestos business from 1935 to 1983, 34 of those years running his own company in Baltimore. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Anna Leroy-Marler of Tampa, Fla.; two sons, Walter W. Leroy Jr. of Frankfort, Ky., and Philip Neil Leroy Sr. of Atlanta; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions as desired by Mr. Leroy, may be made to the Ruth Leroy Memorial Fund, Agnes Scott College, 141 College Ave., Decatur, Ga. 3003-3797.
